Funny, I didn't leave the house for longer than a few hours at a time, yet I feel like I've had a long vacation.
Yes, I popped over to read a few of your blogs, mostly just lurking but occasionally posting a hello.
Yes, I answered a handful of emails, but the numbers weren't even in the dozens.
Yes, I thought about my book/publicity/etc., but I'm still working off my To Do list from 3 weeks ago, so really, I didn't do much when you consider I usually knock out a week's list in 3-4 days.
So, now I'm back. I'm feeling refreshed and ready to dive back into blogging and to play around with some exciting new ideas for my book and business. But, before I bog you down with the fun new details of the changes I'm making (that'll come tomorrow), you may be wondering just what the heck I've been doing for so many weeks (can you believe I stayed away LONGER than I planned - and didn't cave in and return SOONER like I thought I would?!).
To keep it simple (my new mantra), here's my Top 10 list of my last few weeks:
10. Backyard play time with the kids (multiple times/day!!)
9. Created and quilted a baby quilt (my first sewing project since the 30+ pillow cases I made for Christmas presents - I was happy my machine knew how to work after all that down time!)
8. 3 yoga sessions
7. The day we visited 3 parks and had 2 picnicks before 1PM with 3 grandparents
6. Strawberry picking
5. 2 massages
4. Sleeping for more than 4 hours/night (still working to improve that, but it is getting better)
3. Running with my cousin (about 9 years my junior) who was a top runner for his VA high school track and cross country teams
2. Sewing a quilt for my daughter's new "big girl" bed (half-finished)
1. Running a PR on July 4th - 26:00.7
Happy Wednesday! And a happy Engagement Anniversary to my husband - 9 years ago today he got down on one knee on the cobblestone street under the crystal clear stars in Cortona, Italy after one giant fiasco of a day (the trains were on strike) travelling from the States to Rome to Cortona see me while I was studying abroad. It was a magical start to our life together and I'd say "Yes!" all over again.

Kicking into Full Gear!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed, knocking on wood and tossing some salt over my left shoulder just to be sure . . . but (to be read in a hushed tone): I think Winter's darkness has left and Spring is sticking around for awhile! Now THAT is news to cheer about after close to 7 months of grey skies and drizzle. To celebrate, my family has spent the last few days in ACTION:
- Thursday evening my husband and I ran a little over 4 miles, soaking in the fresh air, sunshine and time without kids (though we waved in their direction as we passed my parents' neighborhood!)
- Friday we spent the evening playing in the backyard (sandbox fun, weeding, mowing, etc.) - I did my treadmill work in the AM before retrieving the kids
- Saturday we went for bagels with my mom and then met her at the trail (she walked Little Sister in the jogger while Little Brother joined us for a bike ride - probably close to 5 miles with all of our double backs!) - upon return, my husband switched from his single speed to his road bike for a solo 15 mile ride.

- Today we went for a hike . . . sort of a training hike for later in the season and the summer when we have our camping trips (it is good to test these things out in small does before a big event - almost like marathon training - you don't want to find out 2 miles out that you don't have the right gear/food/distracting songs/trail games to last an entire day!). Little Sister did about a quarter of a mile before deciding that riding in the pack would be a good way to go. But, at 15 months, she's going strong!

- I think I'll work in a run this afternoon. The 10K is fast-approaching and I want to be sure I'm mentally ready for the hills. I'm definitely more ready now that I was about 3 weeks ago when I set my goals to run 3x/week, no matter what. I've kept with it - and have even added in the other stuff like bike rides, hikes and playtime outside with the kids. It is SO great to see that not only am I conquering my mental challenges, but I'm also seeing some results physically - I didn't recognize my calves in the mirror, they looked so strong!
Ah, the rejuvination of spring! And the wonder of REI gear that keeps us doing what we love to do! What are YOU doing to enjoy the return of sunny weather?!

The calm before the storm
I'm gearing-up for a big week of running celebrations (Girls on the Run of Puget Sound auction and the Launch Par-tay for my book!) and supporting youth (the auction, my son's first music concert), so I spent the weekend enjoying life with my family because I'll be away just about every evening this coming week.
Other than fitting in my third run of the week (hooray!), Saturday was rather unmemorable and tiring (I don't remember specifics because I've tried to push them out of my mind, but I believe the day was heavy with children whining and eating - they're both going through growth spurts and didn't sleep well the night before . . . come to think of it, the adults may have been whining, too, by the end of the day).

(Yes, these adorable kids who were engrossed in the sandbox for nearly an hour were the same two who were unbearable yesterday - I find it hard to believe sometimes, myself!)
But TODAY, the glorious day that it was, was SO good that I brought out the camera to document it (well, part of it, anyhow)!
- The day was TOO nice to pass-up a picnic at the park, so we swung past Whole Foods to get the best picnic lunch I've ever had - custom sandwiches for all (that translates into a tomato/mozzerella/basil one for me!), potato salad for the grown-ups, fruit salad for all . . . yum!
- We capped off our excursion with the picnic at a park we'd never visited - which turns out to have a mini farm where we enjoyed seeing goats, a VERY pregnant pig, horses, bunnies, young chicks . . . we'll definitely return!
- The afternoon was spent fully engaged in PLAY - play in the backyard, our daughter's first time in the sandbox, wagon rides galore, and we pulled out the play tunnel after dinner for one last dose of giggles and fun.

I now feel fully rejuvinated and ready to tackle the week!
I hope YOU feel ready to hit "send" to pass along your favorite snack or post-run recipe, a photo of yourself running or a lovely little blurb about what makes you passionate about running . . . because I'm looking forward to sharing it with my readers this week for the Virtal Book Launch that kicks off TOMORROW!! (My daughter ready for the day with a hat to shade her eyes from the bright sun that we haven't seen much of in MONTHS!)
- the run for the day was gifted to our dog, Albus, who spent about an hour frolicking around the dog park while we enjoyed watching and following him around. Today was a good day to be a dog!
- a trip to REI for some new yoga pants for me and bike lock-related stuff for my husband (who is now riding his bike to catch the bus to work!) had us smiling . . . the kids were thrilled that we finally made the switch over to SIGG bottles because they are now the proud new owners of some neat-o new water bottles (my son's has gorillas, my daughter is getting my old purple one and I got a sweet new red one, which she proudly carried for me).- The day was TOO nice to pass-up a picnic at the park, so we swung past Whole Foods to get the best picnic lunch I've ever had - custom sandwiches for all (that translates into a tomato/mozzerella/basil one for me!), potato salad for the grown-ups, fruit salad for all . . . yum!

(The day was so nice, our son just couldn't keep his shirt on and my husband and I took turns pulling them around and around and around the back yard in the wagon)
(There's nothing like being chased through a tunnel by your big brother while the static attacks your hair!)
